OPEN CLIMB : Set. Train. Share.

Whether you are a seasoned climber or a beginner at Bloc Shop, it’s hard to ignore the imposing training wall at the back of the room. While some climbers use it as a warm-up or to finish their sessions, most see it as a tool to quickly increase their climbing strength. The “forty five”, as designated by the regulars, can be used to reinforce your fingers and core strength when used properly. There is one thing everyone can acknowledge: training is hard. It is particularly easy to lose sight of your goals if you lack a rigorous structure and, above all, fun!

Two montrealers have recently developed a mobile application that will help you to keep those two elements in check. It is actually quite simple: it allows you to open and share your own bouldering problems with the climbing community. It is therefore possible, whether you are alone or with your friends, to test youself on the latest creations from the “pros” of the forty five. Obviously, if you want to try your luck at routesetting, your own creations can also be shared with the application users.

Not unlike the School Room in Sheffield, where the strongest climbers in the UK created and inventoried their own problems in the 1990s, the application will also allow you to test your skills with your friends. Very easy to use, the mobile application Open Climb will allow you to submit your lastest projs to the community in three easy steps. You simply take a picture of the wall with your phone, then designate each handholds part of your problem. Finally, you give it a grade and share it.

You don’t like crimps? Neither do I. This is not a problem since the application allows you to sort the problems available by hold type, wall angle and level of difficulty.

This is a perfect tool for both the novice climber who wishes to become familiar with a type of climbing in particular, as well as the advanced climber who keeps falling on the the last move of his four-year project.

Just try it! You can follow further development and download the application on :
